Interlibrary Loan Services
If you are unable to find the materials you desire in the Franklin Township Public Library catalog, you may submit a request for the library to obtain the materials through interlibrary loan (ILL).
We are able to obtain many books and periodical articles from libraries in New Jersey, as well as other states to fill patron requests. Some libraries will also loan music CDs, VHS tapes, and DVDs. Generally, however, libraries will not loan materials that have been published one year previous to the date of an ILL request. If the item you seek is less than one year old, please call the Reference Desk for assistance.
Only residents of Franklin Township may submit ILL requests to the Franklin Township Public Library. If you are a resident of another town, but you have a Franklin Township barcode for reciprocal borrowing, you submit your ILL requests to your home library.
Patrons are limited to three active ILL requests. A request ceases to be active upon the borrowed book’s return (to this library), or upon patron receipt of periodical article. Patrons with overdue books, as well as patrons whose library accounts are temporarily blocked, or those who are barred from borrowing library materials may not use the ILL service until their accounts are cleared up.
To submit an ILL request, please be prepared to provide your library barcode, your name, your telephone number, and as much information about the material you are requesting as possible. It is helpful for us to know as much as possible about the item you are requesting, including:
- Title
- Author
- ISBN Number
- Date of Publication
- Edition
- Publisher
- Preferred Format (Book, Audiobook cassettes or CD, DVD, etc.)
It may take two weeks or more for items to arrive at the library. ILL items are loaned for two weeks. In most cases, ILL items may not be renewed. The library will contact you if there is a problem with filling the request or when the item comes into the library.
