Staff Pick of the Week: Poetry Mix

Did you know April is National Poetry Month?  Inaugurated in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets, National Poetry Month is celebrated every April and is the largest literary celebration in the world! The aim is to:

  • highlight the extraordinary legacy and ongoing achievement of American poets,
  • encourage the reading of poems,
  • assist teachers in bringing poetry into their classrooms,
  • increase the attention paid to poetry by national and local media,
  • encourage increased publication and distribution of poetry books, and
  • encourage support for poets and poetry

Instead of the normal staff pick of the week, here are some recent poetry books that have been garnering attention. What’s the favorite among our staff? There Are More Beautiful Things Than Beyonce by Morgan Parker.

Magdalene by Maria Howe
When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities by Chen Chen
Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace
Map to the Stars by Adrian Matejka
There Are More Beautiful Things Than Beyonce by Morgan Parker
