Congratulations to our Children’s Department!

congrats

For the second year in a row, our Children’s Department has won the Best Practices in Early Literacy Award!   Last year our Scribble Time program won the prize, this year our Reading Connection program won!

We are extremely proud of our Children’s Department, and receiving this award two years in a row shows that we are justified in that.  Congratulations to our staff!

Franklin Township Public Library is dedicated to providing great content for all ages, and we’re extraordinarily pleased that some of our programs are getting such wonderful attention.  We are here for you, our community, and hope you’ll come in soon to take advantage of some of the great services and programs that we offer.  Take a peek at our Children‘s and Adult Calendars to find what interests you.

Reading Connection is a program seeking to develop phonemic awareness and language arts skills through hands on activities that include math, science, writing, crafts and movement.  A letter of the alphabet is chosen for each program and all activities feature that letter.  We begin with a story like Caps for Sale for the letter C, followed by songs and book discussion.  We then have activity stations, where there are vocabulary words and directions to acquaint children with following printed directions, and making the connection between the printed word and subsequent actions.
