Lots More Summer Fun for Kids at the Library!

Walk-ins are welcome! If a program is full, take your chances and come anyway – there are always people who don’t show up and forget to cancel.

Registration helps us to know how to set up the room for our programs, so we like it when you register, but our policy is that, once those who registered have entered the program, we will fit as many people as we can on a first come, first served basis.

Plan to arrive early if you haven’t registered, and we will do what we can. Sometimes, as with the art classes, space and/or supplies are limited, but we hate to see empty places when we know that people wanted to be here. Just be sure that your child is the right age for the program, and make other arrangements for siblings who are too young for a particular program.

Here is a look at what’s coming:

Tuesday, July 31: There is still room in the Unifying Drum Circle program at 7:00 p.m. This will be great fun for the whole family. Richard Reiter is bringing 65 drums and 30 rhythm instruments, and everyone will be in the band – parents and grandparents, too! It helps if you register either online or by calling the Children’s Desk at the Main Library, but if you’re in the neighborhood and willing to share, then stop by and check it out.

Wednesday Movie Matinees for kids continue for the next few weeks at 1:30 p.m. Watch on our large screen in air-conditioned comfort – it’s the perfect way to chill out as a family on a hot summer afternoon. Our films this summer feature music – and singing along is encouraged! Come to Sing! on August 1, and then The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine on August 8, and finally Trolls  on August 15. No food at this program, please, as we have an evening concert on those days.

Don’t miss the Family Film Cafe on Tuesday, August 7, at 7:00 p.m. Bring supper or a snack to this one! In keeping with the summer reading theme “Libraries Rock!” our feature will be Rock Dog!

August brings more puppet shows! Don’t miss Madeleine Beresford Puppets presenting Crab Tales on Monday, August 6. This will be followed on Monday, August 13,  with an in-house puppet show presented by the librarians, and our season closes with Tucker’s Tales Puppet Theatre performing The Three Bears & Other Stories on Monday, August 20.

Check the online calendar for details, and for a schedule of programs at the Branch Library, too.

All of these programs and more are part of our annual Library Summer Reading Program – have you joined yet? It’s not too late! Remember that we are happy to log your reading time at the Children’s Desk if that’s easier for you.

See you at the Library!
