Title:
Copper Cornerstone Box
Date:
06/15/1936
Description:
The copper cornerstone box for the new Post Office in New Brunswick. It sits on an old beaten wooden desk (Elton's notes say it is "E.W."'s desk, so it's most likely his own). It's lid is off, showing the files and newspapers placed inside it for future generations to see what the world was like when the cornerstone was laid. To set off the box more clearly, white sheets of paper were clipped together to form a background for the photo. However you can still clearly see, above the paper, what is possibly a doorway's cornice on the left and either a painting or mural on the right -- both in a style reminiscent of a grand municipal building. This photo was likely taken in either the old or the new post office.
