New Historical Photos Collection!

Get a glimpse of history! Check out this collection of photographs taken by local photographer Elton H. L. Wade during the early part of the 20th century. The collection includes photographs of everyday life in the Middlebush area of Franklin Township, as well as many historically significant photos, such as photos of the Hindenburg zeppelin flying over New Brunswick and exhibits at the New York World’s Fair of 1939-1940. The initial online collection features 29 images, and will grow each month to feature the over 2,000 photographs taken by Wade in his lifetime. Click here to see the photos.

Got Cable?

Share Your houghts in the On-Line Survey

The Franklin Township Cable Advisory TV Committee (CATV) is looking for residents’ opinion about their cable service.

Franklin’s franchise agreement with Comcast expires December 11, 2014, and the township is currently in the ascertainment period. The results of the survey will be used in the Township Council’s preparation for the New Jersey Office on Cable television (OCTV)-required Municipal Report and negotiations.

If you sustained losses or damages from Hurricane Sandy and need assistance or information on housing, unemployment claims, temporary work, crisis counseling, tax returns or other matters, help is available.  To register for disaster assistance and get additional information, you can call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) [1-800-462-7585 TTY for the hearing impaired,], go online to www.disasterassistance.gov, or visit the Somerset County Disaster Recovery Center, Somerset County Human Services Building, 27 Warren Street, Somerville, NJ 08876.  The Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until further notice.

Franklin Park Branch Library Coming Soon

Construction has started and is well underway at the new Franklin Park Branch, to be located in the Franklin Towne Center on Route 27. Library staff have been purchasing materials and gearing up for opening. No firm date has been set for the expected opening, so please check back here for updates.

Congratulations Contest Winners!

The Franklin Township Public Library would like to thank all of the photographers who submitted work for this year’s “Picturing Franklin” photography contest. The Library received 43 eligible entries, all of which are on display in the Library’s lobby and Historical Room display cases. The winners were announced during a reception at the Library on January 29th. First and second prize winners were announced in each of five categories: Architecture/Landmark, Judges’ Choice, Landscape, Nature/Animals, and People.

AARP to Offer Tax Assistance @ Library

Representatives from the AARP Tax-Aide program will be providing tax preparation assistance to individuals at the Library during the months of February, March & April.

Assistance is by appointment only, and inquiries should be directed to the AARP directly. Appointment preference will be given to the elderly and individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. The contact number for appointments is (908) 541-5710. This number will be open for appointments beginning February 1st.

Since its inception in 1968, AARP Tax-Aide has grown to become the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance program. More than 35,000 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers, trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, help more than 2.6 million taxpayers file their federal, state, and local tax returns each year.

FTPL Annual Book Sale 10/15 to 10/16

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP PUBLIC LIBRARY ANNUAL BOOK SALE – OCTOBER 15/16, 2011

Franklin Township Public Library is now accepting donations of books and other materials for the Annual Book Sale to be held October 15 and 16, 2011. Books must be delivered to the Circulation Desk during normal business hours. Out of consideration for others, we request that you do not drop donations in the book returns or leave them in bags and boxes outside the library. A form letter for tax purposes is available upon request; however the estimated valuation of the donation is the responsibility of the donor.
