Digital Magazines Now Available! (& Free!)

We have big news! You asked, and we listened.  Last week we launched our new digital magazine initiative: Zinio for Libraries!   This new service is available to resident library card holders.

Franklin Township Public Library now offers several magazines through an online service.  The service we’re using is called Zinio, and we have subscriptions to 46 different magazines!   These include titles like Newsweek, Vanity Fair, Car and Driver, and Better Homes and Gardens.  These magazines are available electronically, and are identical to the print version, including ads.  A full list of available titles is at the end of this post.
To access our digital magazines, you must visit Zinio’s website (you can also visit the Zinio link under the eReading tab on the Library’s website), and create an account.  This is a very simple process.   You will need your library barcode number and a working email address.

How to create an account/Getting Started:

  • After going to their webpage, you will see our logo in the upper left hand corner.
  • In the upper right hand corner, you will see “Login” or “Create New Account”.  Click “Create New Account”
  • It will ask for your library card barcode. Type this in.
  • Then type in your first and last name, email address, and create a password for the website
  • That’s it!

Start browsing our titles.  It is very easy to check out titles, simply click the small plus-book sign next to the magazine title (below the magazine cover).  This will add the title to your check outs.  A pop-up window will appear, letting you know you’ve checked out the title.  This pop-up also offers you the option to receive an email when a new copy of the magazine is released.

It is important to remember your login information, since you will also use it to utilize the Zinio for Libraries app (smartphones, tablets, etc.).  Your email address is your username.

If you have any questions or need any HELP, look at Zinio’s Help Page, which is very thorough.  They have user guides and video tutorials for PCs, Macs, iPhones, Androids, and more.  It also has an online support form and email addresses for technical assistance.  Please reach out to them with any technical issues.  The Library cannot help retrieve forgotten username (your email address) or password information.

You can read magazines online, via your internet browser, or via an app.  All magazine selections must be made online through your internet browser.  The app only allows you to read titles you have already checked out.

When downloading the app, you must download the Zinio for Libraries app, not just “Zinio”.  Your login information will not work with the Zinio app.  The app uses this logo:

When opening the app for the first time, you will have to login.

  • Select your country: United States
  • Select your state: New Jersey
  • Select Library: Franklin Twp Public Library
  • Username: [enter your email address]
  • Password: [enter your password]

The app will show you what titles you have checked out already.  If you are on your smartphone or tablet and would like to check out additional titles, minimize the app and open your internet browser.  Go to Zinio’s website, login, and checkout more magazines!   Then re-sync the app.
