This Week at the Library: What’s Happening 11/26 – 12/2

 

Adult Chess (Open Play) – Monday, 11/26 at 6pm.

Studies show that playing chess can hone strategic planning, spatial analysis, and non-verbal reasoning skills. The royal game is also a fun pastime and a great way to get out of the house and meet some new people. So, what are you waiting for? We provide the chess boards, all you need is a desire to play.

This drop-in adult chess group is open to beginner through advanced level players, and registration is not required.

 

Turning Memories into Memoirs – Wednesday, 11/28 at 7pm.

Join NJ author Lisa Romeo to learn how to turn memories into a memoir, as she explains the way she uses memory triggers to write memoir. She’ll read a bit from her new book, Starting with Goodbye: A Daughter’s Memoir of Love after Loss, teach a mini-lesson, offer several handouts, and take attendees through an interactive memoir writing exercise. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Multi-generational Workplace – Thursday, 11/29 at 6:30pm.

Join Workforce Development Specialist Jan Goodman for an exploration of the multi-generational workplace.

There are currently five generations in the workforce, and employers faced with mass retirements of Baby Boomers are looking for ways to prepare for the changes that will result. This workshop examines the history and reality of the generation gap. The workshop further explores whether defining the actual limits of each generation is most important, or whether the merits of people within the context of employment is the bigger issue. We will explore problems, solutions, and strategies to help overcome issues of the generation gap.

AARP – Beyond the Basics for You iPhone – Friday, 11/30 at 10:30am.

AARP New Jersey is providing free, hands-on technology workshops to help you make the most of your mobile devices-for work or play! Discover the iPhone’s capabilities.  If you are new to mobile technology or in need of a refresher, this introductory course is a great starting point. Learn about, Apps, Medical ID, and basic functions like wallpapers, shortcuts, security settings, conference calling, video calls and more!
Bring in your iPhone or iPad for practice.  All participants will get a free touchscreen stylus pen.
