Weekend Fun: Paper Rocket Ship Toy and Space Music Videos
Throughout history, people have thought about or dreamed about traveling beyond our planet, and it finally happened in the last 60 years. Space ships and “rockets” have changed a lot over the years!

Make your own paper rocket toy and have some fun with this music!
(Parents, some of the elementary songs teach the name and order of the planets in the solar system, but don’t tell the kids they are learning – just have fun together).

What you need:
Paper – construction paper or cardstock
Straw – can be paper or plastic or just a strip of cardboard, to serve as a handle
Stickers or scrap paper to decorate the rocket
Strips of tissue paper approx. 1” wide and 10 “ long
Scissors, pencil, markers or crayons
Glue and tape

What you do:
1. Draw a rocket by using shapes – a rectangle for the body of the ship and a triangle for the top, or nose (where the astronauts sit).
2. Cut out the rocket, and then decorate it with stickers, bits of paper, and markers or crayons.
3. TIP: For a 3-D rocket, use a half sheet of paper and roll it up to form a tube. Tape it in place.
4. Glue or tape the tissue paper strips to the back end of the rocket – these are the flames.
5. Tape the rocket to the straw or cardboard strip handle.
