Virtual Programs for December 2020

Zumba Gold Chair + Chair Pilates – Wednesday, 12/2 and 12/16 at 2:30pm via Zoom.

Join instructor Laura Fechter for this fun combo exercise class in a chair! Come ready to sweat, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong.

Zumba incorporates easy-to-follow Zumba choreography that focuses on range of motion and coordination. Zumba Gold Chair is perfect for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves at a lower intensity.

Chair Pilates is a mind-body class based on Pilates principles, using the chair for support and balance as well as various fun props, and incorporating breathing, stretching and strengthening for the whole body!

Concert: The Levins – Thursday, 12/3 at 7pm via Zoom.

RAISE YOUR GLASS TO CHARLES DICKENS! A festive, participatory, celebratory time! Sing-alongs and storytelling based on Dickens’ novels, musical and movie adaptations, featuring an original song that introduces seven Dickens’ novels in under seven minutes!

This personal and inviting presentation has been developed and produced by award winning, NY-based singer-songwriters and performers, The Levins. Ira and Julia have creatively adapted their full-time profession as touring musicians by offering their presentations in video format that is both educational and entertaining. This program was made possible by funds from the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Tai Chi for Beginners – Saturday, 12/5 and Sunday 12/13 7:00-8:00pm via Zoom

Dr. Gang Huang, the founder of ‘Seeking Tai Chi,’ will be teaching Tai Chi classes for those who have little or no Tai Chi experience.

The focus will be on fundamentals that aim to improve strength, balance, coordination, and inner piece to lead to healthy living. It is not necessary to attend previous classes to benefit from a Tai Chi for Beginner session. This will be a perfect opportunity to get to experience authentic Tai Chi training which is also referred to as ‘Meditation in Motion.’

Improv Workshop – Tuesday, 12/8 at 7pm via Zoom.

Have you ever watched ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?” and thought they must be having a ball?  Well they are!  Learn the fundamentals of improvisation as you get on your feet and play! Quick out-of-the-box thinking, listening, and teamwork are part of the fun as we engage in hysterical games and improvised scenes in this interactive, playful workshop.

Accessing Free Job Resources Through Skillup Great Raritan – Wednesday, 12/9 at 3pm via Zoom.

SkillUp Greater Raritan is a free online career education portal for all residents of Somerset and Hunderton Counties. It contains hundreds of courses ranging from Business Etiquette to Microsoft Office to Human Resources to Customer Service and much more. During this webinar, you can learn how to access and navigate SkillUp. Presented by the Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board.

Chair Yoga – Thursday, 12/10 at 11am via Zoom.

Open to all levels of practice and abilities, this gentle class focuses on an exploration of basic yoga poses and how to connect them through attention to breathing, alignment and mindfulness. Although much of the class will be done seated in a chair, the option to practice standing poses to improve balance, strength and flexibility are also included. Expect lots gentle stretching to bring movement to the joints and muscles. This class is perfect for stress relief and overall well-being.

Virtual Sit n’ Knit or Crochet – Wednesday, 12/16 at 2:30pm via Zoom.

Join us virtually for knitting and crocheting! If you’re experienced fiber enthusiast, or just beginning your fiber journey, bring along your creations for some show and tell.  All levels are welcome. Open to adults and teens.

Pet Loss Support – Sunday, 12/20 at 1:15pm via Zoom.

Pet parents who have lost a pet, or anticipate a loss, gather to share stories and memories with like minds and hearts. The Friends of Nikki Pet Loss Support Group was founded 3/8/01 and has been serving the community for over 19 years.
