This past Saturday (3/10/18), both of our branches participated in the 4th annual NJ Makers Day. For those of you out there who attended, we’d like to sincerely thank you for coming! We hope you had as much fun as we did. Over the course of the day, we had over 300 children, teens, and adults in attendance! Here are a few of the activities we hosted:

Snap Circuits – Education about completing circuits, electricity, and green power.

  • Made 70 dog and cat toys for the Franklin Animal Shelter
  • Contributed 82 squares to a quilt for a women’s shelter
  • Made 88 Cards for children at Children’s Specialized Hospital

Toys for Pets and Card Making!

We’d also like to offer our heartfelt thanks to these local non-profits who made our Maker Day possible:

  • Second Chance for Animals (Website)
  • Girl Scout Troop 60631
  • Thomas Edison Energysmart Charter School (TEECS) Robotics Club
  • Central Jersey College Prep Charter School Robotics Team
  • Cranberry Lacemakers of Central New Jersey

From Left to Right: Cougar Robotics Team, TEECS Robotics Club presentation, Second Chance for Animals, and members of Girl Scout Troop 60631 learning lace making.

Finally, a big thank you to our library staff and volunteers!

We’re already looking forward to NJ Makers Day 2019!

It looked like there were a lot of cool things for kids to do. But there really wasn’t much for adults. Perhaps next year that could be rectified? I attended the main branch’s festivities.

Hi Sue, thanks for the comment! We try to add new events and activities every year, so moving forward we’ll keep your suggestion in mind. As the date for Makers Day 2019 gets closer, we’ll be posting descriptions of new things that we’ve added since last year so be sure to look out for that. We’re of course always open to suggestions!

      Thanks again for writing!
